With the one widinig of opening we created between kitchen and livingroom, we had to reinforce the header and opted not to open it completely as it would have been more expensive to run a new beam up in the ceiling. Best of luck. We are think of taking the entire parlor and 2nd floor for ourselves and would like to reconfigure. I have had mixed opinions given on if 20' spans are allowable with support. In the column marked 'conveyance' there was a date, 06/09/87. I assume that June 1, 1887? The next dates are 06/12/61, 11/29/61, and 02/07/69 which is the date my grandmother bought the house. Unfortunately their was a fire and the house was razed soon after. I asked someone at the DOB if the floor plans or blueprints were still available but he said when a property is razed the old documents are thrown out. Doors may move locations and some woodwork as well, but we'll keep it and reuse it. For new build, we are trying to stay true to the age of the house, keeping in mind that it needs to be functional for a modern day renter, and for us. This has been an interesting balancing act and I hope it will become more apparent as we start adding the finishes, tile, lighting, paint, etc. Speaking of paint, I do love a mossy green we found in the master bedroom on our floor, once the front parlor. We'll be using a similar color, and refinish the woodwork.KristinBhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01221011053049016850noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4248734840775896929.post-30519439659559283842016-07-31T11:55:03.835-07:002016-07-31T11:55:03.835-07:00I just skimmed your entire blog...what an endeavor...I just skimmed your entire blog...what an endeavor to take on-- renovating a row home WITH units. Way cool. I'll be sure to visit again and see new developments! I hope you get out of the dark basement soon! Really love the bit about unearthing past paint colors and wallpapers. I think that would be my favorite part of renovating an old home. Imagining the lives of past occupants. And being inspired by their color choices. With the preservation society program are you restoring to its original shape with modern upgrades?? Those old paint chips could inspire some fun color choices! :)Mirandahttp://theevolutionofahome.wordpress.comnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4248734840775896929.post-9214138786655574782016-02-26T05:07:45.660-08:002016-02-26T05:07:45.660-08:00Deal.
